An Elder’s Symposium and Gathering will held on May 27 - 31, 2019 hosted by Keewaytinook Okimakanak, Independent First Nations Alliance and Kwayaciiwin Education Resource Centre.
The three day event will take place at Donnelly's Minnitaki Lodge situated on the shores of the Pickerel Arm. Over 30 elders from the First Nation communities of Fort Severn, Deer Lake, North Spirit Lake, Keewaywin, Poplar Hill, Wunnumin Lake, Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug, Kasabonika, King Fisher Lake, Muskrat Dam, Wapekeka, Lac Seul, Sandy Lake, North Caribou Lake and others will be gathered together for a language and knowledge sharing symposium. Writers and facilitators from the communities will also be in attendance to record the knowledge shared by the elders during the three day language sessions. Traditional food will be served and prepared for the elders and event attendees, as well as entertainment.
Our languages are important and as organizations that support First Nations education, we will continue to work with communities to keep our languages strong and vibrant.
